Adjustments/Spinal Manipulation
The term "adjustment" refers to the specific procedure chiropractors apply to restore proper alignment to spinal vertebrae that have moved out of their normal position, much like a crooked tooth. This often results in abnormal joint movement and irritation of the nearby spinal nerves. The objective of the chiropractic adjustment/manipulation is to reduce the misalignment, which results in an increased range of motion, reduced nerve irritability and improved motion and function. Adjustments are safe, comfortable, and proven to be extremely effective.
Spinal adjustments/manipulation can be performed by hand, or with the use of specialized light-pressure adjusting instruments. Even though many of our patients present with significant pain and muscle spasm, relaxing physical therapy treatments (such as electronic muscle stimulation, ultrasound, cold laser therapy, or massage) prior to spinal manipulation allow Dr. Harnois provide the most effective and comfortable treatment possible.
